FAQ: How to connect drives to the EPIA PX

Important! The EPIA PX has 1x SATA connection and 1x 2.0mm 44-pin IDE connector. This is not the same as a 'standard' 40-pin IDE connector. A 44-pin to 44-pin cable is provided, which can connect directly to a 2.5in HDD, to our type I/II Compact Flash Adapter, or to a slimline optical drive (with a 44-pin Slimline IDE Adapter). However it is still possible to connect standard 40-pin IDE devices using a 3.5in to 2.5in IDE adapter or cable. Please see the list below for the correct cable choices.

To connect a SATA HDD you will need a SATA Data Cable, and if your PSU does not have a SATA power connector, a Molex HDD to SATA power connector. A SATA data cable is not included. We stock combined SATA data and power cables.

FAQ: Powering the EPIA PX

The EPIA PX comes with an adapter cable to convert a standard male 20-pin ATX power connector to its own Pico-ITX power connector.

You can therefore use any ATX power supply to power the EPIA PX. Don't forget to connect a power switch to the correct pins on the front panel connector. Remember that some larger ATX PSUs are very inefficient at low current draws, and may not sense the load of the motherboard at switch on (this is the case for all low power consumption motherboards).

We have a selection of power kits. All of these apart from the Pico-PSU 80 will work with the EPIA PX. We recommend the very versatile Pico-PSU 120 and 80W AC Adapter combination, or our new 80W Mini-PSU Kit which is also very small. For use within a vehicle, the M1-ATX or M2-ATX will work perfectly. Don't forget to consider your other devices. If you have a full size optical drive then 100W+ is recommended. For almost all other combinations, 80W should be easily sufficient. Consult our review for more information.

EPIA PX FAQ

Q What cases are available for the EPIA PX?

A Currently the TE-288, TE-288 Vehicle, TE-290, PX8 Fanless Case and the ARTiGO Case and Board Bundle.

Q Can I buy the ARTiGO case seperately?

A The PX board provided with the ARTiGO has a modified heatsink arrangement, so the ARTiGO is only available bundled with a PX board.

Q I already have an ARTiGO Kit, can I put the board in a PX8 case?

A Yes - the heatsink is removed as part of the PX8 installation process, so this combination will work.

Q Where are the audio outputs?

A Audio is available on 2.0mm pin headers on the board. Our Input/Output Module will provide these, as will any of our Pico-ITX cases.

Q What happened to the PX-O output module in your review?

A VIA decided not to include it with the final board. Ours is probably a collectors item now.

Q I don't have a case or input/output module. How do I switch my board on and off without connecting the power pins together each time?

A You could set your BIOS up to switch on automatically after AC power loss, fit your board in a case or use our Input/Output Module.

Q I have a question not answered here...

A Send us an email, after first checking our extensive review.
